Four Devon players took part in the Badminton England Wiltshire Bronze Tournament last weekend. Held in Melksham, the U15 boys' singles event attracted 40 competitors from 16 different counties. Following excellent play in the group stage, Sidmouth's Harry Williams made it through to the quarter finals alongside fellow Devon squad members George Joannou and Zach Phillips. The fourth Devon player, Sam Owens, narrowly missed on a place in the last eight. An unfortunate draw meant Harry and Zach then had to play each other to establish who would take a place in the semis. After a confident start Harry took an early lead. Zach made a valiant come-back in the second end but couldn't quite close the gap, giving Harry a 21-15 victory. In the semi-final Harry met Avon's Henley Ngan: in the first end the score was very close but in the second Henly's deceptive net shots gave him the edge and a 21-15 win. Henly went on to the final, winning the U15 title, whilst Harry took a well deserved bronze, his first Badminton England singles medal.
