The Chiefs notched up their biggest league win for more than two years with a much improved performance against newly-promoted Camborne. A strong display from the forwards in both tight and loose play set the platform for the speedier Sidmouth backs to show their paces. The result was five tries to secure a bonus point.

The visitors kicked off in perfect conditions, but soon found themselves under pressure. A couple of powerful runs by andrew dare at inside centre took play into the 22, where dan retter opened the scoring with a penalty after two minutes. Minutes later, they had a great opportunity to increase the lead when the forwards drove a maul 30 metres up field. When the ball was released to the backs, quick handling created an overlap but a dropped pass brought the move to an end.

The chiefs remained in the ascendancy and were soon rewarded with an excellent try. Tom hodge, making his league debut at full back, fielded a 22 drop out just inside his own half. He made a fine break before sending tristan beavis sprinting in under the posts for retter to convert.

Attacking opportunities were sparse, at this stage, for the opposition. Their best chance came from a charged down kick inside the sidmouth 22, but dan retter did well to tidy up and clear the danger.

The lead was increased as the game entered its second quarter. From a scrum on their own 10 metre line ollie pyne and steve trim combined on the blindside to put tom hodge in the clear up the right. He timed his pass perfectly to chris higgs on the wing, who, in turn, rounded the full back to touch down in the corner. The try was unconverted. Another fine handling move, this time on the left, was halted when scott davies put a foot in touch.

Camborne finally got into the game towards the end of the half, thanks to some well directed tactical kicking by their half backs. The sidmouth line came under severe pressure, which was eventually rewarded, in injury time, when the hooker dived over in the left corner following a move around the front of a lineout. The unsuccessful conversion attempt was followed by the halftime whistle with the score at 15-5.

The chiefs needed to reassert themselves straight from the restart, and this they did. Twice the forwards mauled their way to the line but could not get the ball over. Once again it was tom hodge who provided the inspiration, and the finishing touch. He fielded a kick inside his own half, where he found tom seward, on for the injured davies, in support. He cut through the advancing defenders before returning the ball to his full back who touched down under the posts. Dan retter added the conversion.

The bonus point was secured minutes later, when seward rounded off a slick handling move after matt farrington and ollie derryman had done the hard yards from the back of a lineout.

In the middle of the half, camborne lost their full back to the sin bin for handling in a ruck near his line. Dan retter punished the offence further with his second penalty. Then, a couple of minutes later, both sides were down to 14 men when andrew dare was also shown a yellow card.

The chiefs completed their scoring when jack pyne picked up from the base of a ruck on the camborne 22 and powered his way through two tackles for a try which was converted by retter.
