Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) men’s 2nd XI suffered a heavy 9-1 defeat when they travelled to Bude for their latest Southern Two game.

While the score line is ‘dramatic’, in reality, it was a weakened eleven that turned out for SOHC and, collectively, they gave their all from first whistle to last.

Indeed, the determination displayed by the players who had stepped up from the club’s third, fourth and fifth teams was of the highest order.

Max Moore and Ben Harrison showed great maturity and it was Harrison who scored what turned out to be a richly deserved consolation. Given that the average age of the SOHC midfield was just 16, it augers well for the future. Bude are always a very strong opponent when they play on their home surface.

For SOHC, as well as young Moore and Harrison, there were also big shifts put in by James Broad, George Mutter, Tom Cutforth and Euan Webber, the latter despite carrying an injury for much of the game.
