The latest round of matches in the Honiton Netball League saw four Division One teams in action, writes Steph Upson.

HNC 3Ts were up against HNC Hot Shots. Megan Gooding played particularly well for 3Ts, but, unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and the team missed out from gaining a point for the match by nine goals. Rebecca Co-op was the Hot Shots’ player of the match and helped to lead them to victory: 59 – 25.

Flamingos and Hi Q, two experienced teams, both of whom are familiar with sitting at the top of Division 1, met in a highly anticipated match. The final result wasn’t as close as it might have been expected, with Hi Q acquiring a clear victory of 35-20 despite some fine attacking and defending from Flamingos’ centre, Sonia York. Bev Paris’s brilliant play for Hi Q led to her being awarded player of the match for the winning team.

In Division 2, Beer Blazers were missing three of their team members meaning they were without subs for Monday’s match against Tornados. However, this did not deter them and they managed to maintain energy and pace to go on to win their fifth game in a row, 25-8. Ash Taylor, for Blazers, received the POTM accolade after some skilful interceptions as goal defence whilst Tornados’ Katherine Pankiewicz scooped the award for Tornados.

It was a close encounter between JD Tyres and Otter Valley with only six goals between them by the final whistle. Lisa Bevan assisted JD to victory: 20-14, meanwhile Becca Rowe worked hard for Otter Valley.

HNC Honeyz were up against Signs South West – a team used to playing in Division 1. HNC Honeyz showed some fierce attacking and fine defending moments, particularly from Louise Welch, but it wasn’t enough to contend with the more experienced team. Signs went on to win 38-15 with Faye Hawkins (Signs’ Captain) leading from the front and being awarded POTM.

Pixies managed to grab a win from Cranbrook Arrows. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing; it was a closely contested match with Cranbrook refusing to give up, led by Kirsty Crowe, meaning they secured a point for scoring more than half of Pixies’ goals scored. By the end of the final quarter, it was 27 – 19 with Georgie Selley picking up the POTM for Pixies.
