The first event of a new season at the Wiscombe Park speed hillclimb offers a great challenge for single-seater racing car driver Dave Gardner. Sharing the driving duties with John Forsyth in the latter's powerful 3.5 litre Cosworth powered Pilbeam MP58, the Awliscombe driver will be looking to build on the successes achieved last season. Having taken wins at the challenging south Devon venue during his first year in the large capacity racing car class, the former road sports pilot will be seeking to improve his tally, not only against Forsyth but the likes of Roger Cock, who aboard his two litre Pilbeam MP54 was another to score outright victories on the testing 900 metre course.Further local interest in the Woolbridge Motor Club-organised event will revolve around the battle for class honours in the up to 1400cc Modified Production Saloon and Sports Car class where past sparring partners Adrian Langley and Bob Rouse will be locked in combat. The former, from Sidford, will be campaigning his 1380cc Austin Mini against the Ford Fiesta of Exeter domiciled Rouse.A full programme of motor sport spread across the two days sees a variety of machinery in action. From road-going saloons and sports cars through the modified categories, including Porsches, Subaru Imprezas, Mitsubishi Evos and Audi Quattros, to the racing car divisions. On the Sunday there will also be one make categories for Triumph TR and Ginetta cars.Gates open for the practice runs at 10.00 each day with the event starting after a break for lunch. Both meetings are scheduled to be completed by 17.30.
