There was a full programme of Honiton Netball League action on the second Monday of October, writes Steph Upson.

Division One produced a close encounter between Blackdown and HNC 3Ts.

After two quarters had been completed the score was 17-all. Rachel Hopkins worked hard for Blackdown whilst Beth Perkins shone for 3Ts as wing attack. The match ended with only a seven-goal margin between the teams with Blackdown taking the three points for a victory, winning 29-22, but richly deserved consolation for 3Ts was the fact that they secured their first point of the season.

Playing indoors at Colyton LED, Hi Q and Sidmouth Toucans went head-to-head.

The teams were fairly evenly matched in the first half of the game, but in the third quarter Hi Q took greater control and they stormed ahead, netting nearly double the amount of goals that they had scored in the second quarter. They continued to dominate and won the game 31-15.

In this match the respective goal defences stole the show, with both teams’ GDs taking home the Player of the Match awards, Jaz Chester for Hi Q and Sarah Fletcher for Toucans.

In Division Two there was a goalless first quarter in the meeting of Tornados and JD Tyres. The match ended with JD winning 16-5 with their wing defence, Tiff Munt, named their Player of the Match while that accolade for Tornados went to the impressive Judy Gibbons in the wing attack berth.

Also in Division Two, a couple of the league’s new teams this term, HNC Honeyz and Cranbrook were in action. The pair were all square at the end of the first quarter, but, as the game went on, Cranbrook exacted some dominance to go on and win 27-14. However, Honeyz put sufficient into an enthralling contest to deservedly secure their first point of the season.

Louise Welch (Honeyz GA) and her opponent Samantha Jameson (GD) were named as the players of the match.

Beer Blazers won their second game in a row after defeating Pixies 28-19. From the first quarter, the Blazers took the lead and continued to keep control of the game despite some close contests between the two teams and some fantastic play from Georgie Selley for Pixies. Gemma Langham secured the Player of the Match award for Beer after showcasing her range of excellent attacking and defending skills which she teamed with accurate and skilful shooting.

Jurassics unfortunately suffered another major defeat against Signs South West, going down 54-2.

For Jurassics, the Player of the Match award was won by GK/GD Chloe Bartlett while Faye Hawkins scooped the award for the winners.
