The Honiton Netball League is back in action after a break for the Christmas period, writes Steph Upson.
In Division One, the top five places continued to be contested by Flamingos, Hi Q, Hot Shots, Sidmouth Chicks and TNC Otters.
With only a couple of games left before the season enters into a play-off mode, there is still everything to play for.
In Division Two, Lisa Malton of Cranbrook Arrows has had a cracking start to the post-Christmas season, having been awarded the Player of the Match accolade two weeks in a row.
Her skilful shooting has helped earn her this award and her skills were particularly evident when teamed with Kirsty Crowe in the semi-circle against Otter Valley. Between them, they scored 14 goals in the final quarter, giving them an impressive win of 32-10.
Jurassics recently enjoyed their first win of the Division Two season. It came in a close encounter with Tornados, a meeting that saw them enjoy a guest appearance from Jenny Wiscombe, in which they managed to open up a five goal lead, an advantage they did not let slip as they went on to win 20-15. Unfortunately, it has not been all plain sailing in Division Two!
It’s been a bad start for Pixies, who had to forfeit a game as a result of being unable to raise a team. This has resulted in Honeyz receiving an automatic three points and 10 goals difference.
Going forward, it is also tight at the top of the Division Two table with Signs South West having played all nine matches before the play-offs, leaving Beer Blazers and Sidmouth Eagles fighting it out for the top spot with Beer having two games left to play and Eagles with one in hand – which is against the Blazers and that is sure to be an exciting match.
