Sidmouth Croquet Club has re-introduced the short croquet game for club members and held their first competition last Friday, writes David Butler.
The short croquet game is a 14 point association game played on half-sized lawns.
Both players have bisques and each game lasts for one-hour-and-fifteen-minutes.
This shorter game is becoming more popular across England and this interest was reflected within the club with 21 players participating with short croquet handicaps ranging from zero to 10.
After everybody had played four games, Julie Horsley and Richard Thurlow had each won their four.
The winner was determined by a tie-break competition which Julie won by a single hoop. Equal third were John Coombes, Ian Friedlander and Philip Harris who each won three games.
Everybody had an interesting day enjoying the experience of playing players with a variety of handicaps and the competition will be held again next year. The successful day was well organised by Philip Harris, managing his first internal tournament for the club.
