The weather for the weekend of Ottery St Mary club finals was a mixture of sunshine and showers, writes Peter Bebb.
On the Saturday it was mostly wet whilst the following day gave way to sun shine and all matches were ultimately played according to the programme.
The men’s 4-wood singles for the men’s championship was won by Terry House with David Brown as runner-up
In the ladies 4-wood singles for the ladies championship Shirley Fewtrell was the winner, but had to work hard to beat Gail Hawke who lead for a lot of the match, but the result went to Shirley on the last end.
In the ladies pairs’ there was success for Gail Hawke and Shirley Fewtrell as they beat Freda Hunt and Fenella Griggs.
In the men’s pairs, Peter Jones and Mike Smith beat George Kille and John Pethick whilst in the ladies 2-wood singles Shirley Fewtrell beat Sharon Kenny.
The men’s 2-wood singles saw Peter Jones beat Steve Hall and in the open 4-wood singles John Pethick beat Eric Saunders.
The Otter Trophy was contested by Tony Bushell and Tony Luff, and won by Bushell whilst in the nominated mixed pairs Shirley Fewtrell and John Pethick defeated Ann Howells and Terry House.
In the open 3-wood singles Terry House beat Gail Hawke and in the Fred Burgess competition Brian Light saw off Tony Delahay.
Shirley Fewtrell, Tony Luff and David Rose won the mixed triples at the expense of Janet Bebb, Michael Potter and John Pethick and, in the Maurice Jennings mixed pairs, Gail Hawke and Terry House beat Joan Dalton and Tony Bushell.
The successful weekend was concluded with an excellent barbecue provided by members of the club.
