Honiton RFC 2nd XV 38, Torquay 0

With the first team game off due to bad weather, the twos took centre stage as they entertained Torquay at a muddy Allhallows, writes Tom Churchward.

A lot of hard work had gone on before kick-off to allow the game to go ahead and, in an impressive all round performance, the Lacemen ran out comfortable 38-0 winners. Kicking off up the slope, Honiton changed a recent trend by not conceding early and attacked well from the off.

In difficult conditions underfoot, Honiton looked likely to have a tough day on the cards up front against a very large Torquay pack, however, they set their intentions out in the first scrum and won good ball.

Off the back of this the ball found its way out wide through good hands to Rich Peace who showed some electrifying pace to finish well from the half way line. The conversion was knocked over by Carnell.

Honiton came under the cosh for a while but some solid defending, especially at scrum time, held out Torquay and Honiton were able to clear the lines. The remainder of the half was a brutal affair with some big hits going in and the scoreline remaining the same.

Going down the slope, Honiton got just the start they needed in the second half when Olly Hyland crossed over for a try again converted by Carnell.

In an effort to see off the visitors, Honiton flew at the opposition again and this time George Meadows crossed over for an unconverted try.

With the score at 19-0, the Lacemen were playing some really good rugby and were dominating up front.

At the breakdown the ball came loose and some good hands saw Churchward show a good turn of pace to run in from the 15 metre line, the conversion narrowly going wide.

At this point Honiton fancied more and a scrum on the 22 saw Honiton impressively march the visitors back, win the ball against the head and good strength from the impressive Jon Galling saw him cross over in the corner.

With just a few minutes on the clock, George Meadows crossed over for his second of the game and the conversion left the score 38-0 to the Lacemen.

Next week Honiton travel to Totnes.
