Liverton 5, Ottery St Mary 0

Another promising start from Ottery turned to misery after 20 minutes, when Liverton broke swiftly down the Otters’ left flank, the resulting cross being excellently headed home.

It was disappointing for manager Mel Coombs after seeing his side begin brightly but, as in recent games, with every first goal conceded, the belief is battered. Even though the players continue to compete, silly mistakes creep into their game. The next goal came 10 minutes later, as the Liverton players were left unchecked to run into areas that put the defence under so much pressure.

Despite the scoreline, Ottery came out for the second half revitalised and again showed that they can compete with the better sides in this league but, unfortunately, more errors were to cost them dearly.

Where Ottery are lacking at the moment is not punishing teams when they are playing with confidence. The improvement is there, it’s just a matter of time before they will get the break they are working so hard for and find that elusive first win.

“It’s very frustrating. Yes, the lads are giving their all, but I am getting a bit fed up with the opposition managers telling me that our side is much improved when we are still making basic errors. This time I had my strongest side so far but in all fairness it was probably our worst performance since I took over.

Matt Slark in goal was outstanding, without him the scoreline would have been a lot worse. I have the squad of players now capable of winning, it’s up to me to come up with the right solutions..

It’s training this week as there’s no game Saturday.

so we will have a couple of training sessions under our belts before the game at home to Galmpton , I’m convinced we will end these poor run of results.”
