Sidmouth Town were 1-0 winners in their midweek evening South West Peninsula League Eastern Division fixture at Honiton Town.

The only goal of the game came 10 minutes from time and was scored by Ollie Jarrett, netting his fourth of the fledgling season so far.

Town boss Richard Pears said; “It was a well-deserved three points. After what had been a disappointing – not to say poor – show at Ilfracombe [where Town lost 3-0] last Saturday, we asked for a We asked for a response after that poor show on Saturday and we got just that. As disappointed as I had been at the weekend, I was delighted with the all-round performance. The game was everything we expected it would be. They [Honiton] clearly set up to try and get a point and given that is what we anticipated, we had prepared for an ‘attritional game’ that meant we needed to be patient. We were, and, when the chance came, Ollie [Jarrett] stuck it away.”

Pears had high praise for goalkeeper Jake Wreford, of whom he said: “He [Wreford] was exceptional and fully deserving our Man of the Match award.”

Next up for Town is Saturday’s FA Vase tie at Western League side Keynsham Town and the |Vikings are also in midweek action next week with a Tuesday night Manstone Lane home meeting with University (7.30pm).

In other news, Town have signed Tony Radford from Southern League side Barnstaple Town. Vikings boss Richard Pears has worked with Radford both at Barum and at Exmouth Town and the new man made his debut in the win at Honiton Town and he will be involved in Saturday’s FA Vase tie.

Pear says: “Tony has bags of experience and he looks a ‘good fit’ for our side. Danny Clay, who missed the midweek win, is also included in the travelling party to Keynsham on Saturday.
