Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) men’s third team were edged out 2-1 when they visited Yeovil and Sherborne.
The third team travelled up to Somerset minus a number of regular players missing through a combination of injury and illness.
Not for the first time this term the team made a sluggish start and reached half-time trailing 1-0.
The SOHC cause was not helped when injury ended the game of veteran centre back Windy Miller and, without any substitutes, the team were forced to play the second half a man down.
The home side doubled their lead, but SOHC then hit back with a fine finish from Tom Jeacock. That set up a strong finish from the third team and they laid siege to the home goal, but a combination of ill fortune and poor finishing left them unable to add to their score and they slipped to a narrow defeat.
