‘The sun shines on the righteous’, and ‘The Devil looks after his own’, were phrases used recently at Sidmouth Golf Club as the sun shone for the Lady Captain’s Day, writes Ros Eaton.
The format for play was individual stableford, but played with a twist!
The score card used was from another Golf Club!
Par five holes became par three’s and pasr three’s were now par five’s!
It therefore became a true test of mental agility that all ladies passed admirably!
Hampers were awarded to the winners.
In Division One it was Sheila Thomson who claimed first place with Linda Reynolds the runner-up and Penny Lyne third.
Division Two was won by Jacqui Hills with the best score of the day ,followed by Maria Clapp and Margaret Thompsom.
Division Three was topped by Jill Jeffrey, second was Jane Renken and third Paddy Hutchings.
Jeffrey obviously benefitted from the Pimms, scones, cream and jam served at the 10th in the correct, Devonshire manner, as she also went on to win the ‘nearest the pin’ prize on the 11th hole.
A most enjoyable gathering in the clubhouse ended the day, made even better by being told that the player that I had drawn in the sweep for The Open at Muirfield had recorded the worst score for day two and that netted yours truly £10.
