WHIMPLE'S Rebecca Bertrand was easily player of the match with the top score and the most wickets as Devon did the double in girls' cricket. The U15s beat Wales in the final at Sidmouth to win their age group - and the U13s followed suit by beating Yorkshire by 22 runs in their final at Clifton CC near Derby.Devon, who were 10 for one after eight overs, started to get going when Bertrand came to the crease. She went on to top score with 36 in Devon's total of 107 for eight and put on 33 for the second wicket with Anna Gower and 33 for the third with skipper Jodie Dibble.Sidmouth player Dibble went on to make the next best of 22, but no one else made a double figure score as Devon wilted in the face of a hat-trick taken by Yorkshire's Millie Wallis.Devon's 76 for three became 82 for seven after the slump and Dibble did well to wring as many runs out of the tail as she did.Devon have bowled well all season and were confident they had enough runs on the board to win the match. So it proved as Yorkshire were restricted to 85 for nine in reply.Only one Yorkshire batter reached double figures and seven of them failed to score a run between them. Without a whopping 41 extras, 31 of which were wides, the Tykes would have been even more embarrassed!Early wickets for Dibble and Emily Ward put pressure on Yorkshire, then Bertrand got stuck into the middle order. She took five for 17 as Yorkshire slumped to 33 for eight. Opening bat Ellyn Clarke soldiered on to the end to make an unbeaten 25, but it was a lost cause by then and everyone on the ground knew it."This was an excellent performance by Devon, who were lacking experience at the beginning of the season and with every game improved," said coach James Carr."Having an excellent cricketer and captain in Jodie Dibble, and the experience of Rebecca Bertrand, led the way for what the other girls lacked at the beginning of the season."Team (back row from left) James Carr, Rebecca Bertrand (Whimple), Anna Gower (Cornwood), Clare Reynolds (Hatherleigh), Sarah Stacey (Stoke Gabriel), Catherine Mitcham (Braunton), Emily Ward (Filleigh), Lydia Harris (Torquay). Front row: Anna Cherrington (Hatherleigh), Cait O'Keefe (Plympton), Jodie Dibble (Captain, Sidmouth), Tirion Swart (Barton), Carmen Ansley (Stoke Gabriel).
