The final Charles Stanley Monday Stableford was played this week, heralding the start of the approaching winter season with no Monday qualifiers until the clocks change in March, writes John Barnard.

It meant that the final standings in the Eclectic and Birdie count were declared after the season’s final competition.

Club manager Jonathan Lee, won the eclectic, the count of the best score on each hole over the season, helped by a percentage of handicap allowance.

His nett score of 44 (22 better than course par of 66) beat Moray Bosence and Mike Knight by two. Jonathan will be a little disappointed though, as he had led the birdie count for a long time, but was ‘pipped at the post’ by John Jones by one.

John achieved 67 birdies over the season, including no fewer than seven on Monday!

John’s seven birdies helped him to a stableford score of 41 meaning he won The Charles Stanley Monday Stableford by two shots.

He started well with birdies on the first two holes and then on the back nine, he got four birdies in the last six holes, but didn’t score on the 15th, preventing a really great score.

Steve Johnston was second with 39 points, winning on countback from Mark Thomas.

Steve, playing off 21, had seven pars and a birdie, but three no scores messed up what could have been a great card. However, his handicap has reduced to 19 for the winter.

Mark Thomas has been honing his game in Scotland for the past week and didn’t look to have a great round going until he eagled the thirteenth and then birdied fourteen, which tidied his card up no end!

It’s been a great Monday series and thanks are due to Charles Stanley for their continued sponsorship of the competition.

For the regular Monday players, it looks a long cold winter until it all starts again in March 2016.
