For the past couple of months, the juniors of Sidford Tennis Club have been improving their tennis skills under the expert guidance of LTA qualified coach Daryl Bass. Following their most recent session on Friday evening, they were extremely lucky to have a beautiful evening for their annual barbecue which was enjoyed by all.The club are hoping that Daryl Bass will be able run more junior coaching sessions over the coming summer months. For more details of these coaching sessions please contact Gill, the club secretary on (01395) 513243. l Fish is apparently not only good for your brain but also improves your tennis! Having just returned from Cornwall with a lot of fresh fish, Marilyn Barlow drove the Sidford Ladies' A team to Exeter for their 10am match against Tunnels on Sunday morning. The smell of the fish was still pervading the car, but Debbie Snelgrove, taking her debut plunge for the A team, and Jane Chalk played exceptionally well to swim home 6-0, 6 - 1.Marilyn and Mary Lowles eventually sank in a close three set match, but hooked a valuable point. The fish tonic soon wore off though and Jane and Debbie lost 6-0, 6-4 in their second rubber. Marilyn and Mary had a lucky two point win because their opponents conceded due to illness. Sidford won, hook, line and sinker, 5- 4. and now look forward to their next bait on Friday at Exeter Golf and Country Club. Marilyn has got some more fish ready!l The Ladies' B Team travelled to Torquay and recorded an impressive 6-4 win against their D team. The first pair of Linda Reynolds and Gill Dolling won both their matches in straight sets but the second pair of Debbie Snelgrove with Carrie Bevis were not so fortunate and lost both their games in three sets.In men's division 4, Sidford lost their last match against Tunnels A 6-3; the normally consistent partnership of Mike Dommett with Kevin Tratt having a rare off night, losing both of their matches. Paul Carter, with Graham Baker, fared a little better, losing to Tunnels second pair in three sets but then fighting back to record a convincing 6-1 6-1 victory against their first pair. They played last night away to Budleigh Salterton B.l The club are very keen to welcome along new members, particularly anyone interested in playing evening club and match tennis.
