The second leg of the annual match between the Emerton Court senior sides and the B team at Sidmouth golf club saw 20 players on each team battle it out in wonderful sunshine on Saturday, writes Hugh Dorliac.
All were present to contest the Ken Titherington Trophy, awarded by his family several years ago in memory of one of the club’s much-loved members who tragically died before his time.
Leading out the Emerton Court side was their captain Nick Bater with partner Pat McCormack.
They had a ding-dong battle, but the 10 shots given to the other side, featuring Mike Dommett and Pete Northcott, proved too much and they succumbed on the 14th hole. More success followed for the B Team in the next three matches before Challenge Cup finalist David Fish and partner Chris Grubb, next year’s seniors’ captain, pulled one back, winning on the last hole. The next four matches finished with two wins apiece before Neil Faulkner and Steve Milton delivered the coup de grace and finished the match with a win for the B Team, making the result a win for the B team by a score of seven games to three and an overall score of 12-8 and thus they secured the trophy.
