AFTER the rich fare of the club finals, players are back to the bread and butter friendly matches, without which the club couldn't function. The excitement is not all over, there are still plenty of games to show skills, or lack of them, on the outdoor green. The biggest winner this week was the rain but, undeterred and with some luck, the ladies managed some games. Against Sheldon, Sidmouth won 62-51, mainly due to an impressive win of 31-13 by Jill Lewis, Enid Taylor and Ann Newman. The ladies' umbrella was poorly attended with only 16 players. This happens towards the end of the season when members have chosen to take holidays but well done to those who took part. There was a good win by Sue Mison, Di Cox, Pat Gomm and Mary Smith 25-6 and a modest win by Peggy Hannant, Paddy Chew, Ros Tobias and Mary Bristow 17-13. Well done to Pat Ashton-Pritchard and Jill Bishop for reaching the semi-finals of the County Over-55s. Huge congratulations are due to Jean Brimson and Christa Turner for winning the County Finals of the Over-70s Pairs, a great achievement and the Sidmouth club members can bask in their reflected glory!
