Ladies Captains Day at Sidmouth bowls

The sun shone beautifully for our Ladies Captains Day. Thankfully, this seems to happen most years.
Our ladies Captain Jill Bishop's (Pink) team were pitched against our Vice Captain Sue Turner's (Blue) team. It was a very close, very enjoyable game, with lots of banter and laughter.
On these occasions, non-playing members are also invited to a lovely "bowlers tea" after the game. This year there were some 15 that attended, and it was so good to see them all watching the game in the sunshine, and of course having a good chat.
Some are around the 90 plus mark and still very active, must be all those years of bowling and no doubt the Sidmouth sea air!
The winning Pink team was Chris Ward, Janet Thomson and skip Susie Bonnell. The winning team for the Blues was Maggie Masson, Janice Quinn and skip Brenda Somerfield.
The overall score was in favour of the Vice Captains Blue team with 72 points to 65, so pretty close.
Our thanks must go to Mens Captain David and his merry men of Mick, Gordon and Allan for their preparation and serving of our lovely tea. Also to the two bar stewards Tony and Chris for the drinks.
Sidmouth ladies had a home fixture with Madeira ladies. Unfortunately, this was cancelled due to heavy rain and damage to our green, which is now on the road to recovery. However, our men battled through heavy showers to play away to Madeira.
At the start of play, the skies were filled with dark threatening clouds, but luckily they managed to play the full game with very little rain. Four of our five triples sadly lost but one team saved us from a total whitewash, so thanks to Allan Davis, Wilf Radburn and skip John Mason who won 19 - 16.
Finally, a mixed friendly with our West Dorset neighbours Lyme Regis. The weather was kind, company was good and Sidmouth won 85 -61. Our best team was Barbra Donaldson, Ray Tallent and skip Sue Turner, 30 –16.
