Sidmouth hosted the National Top Club Competition against Budleigh Salterton.

Sidmouth hosted the National Top Club Competition against Budleigh Salterton.

There were four disciplines: four, three, pair and single. On Sidmouth's only winning rink were Pat Pritchard, Sue Mison, Anne Capon and Jill Bishop 19-10.

Unfortunately, this was not good enough to take Sidmouth through.

However, a very exciting and enjoyable morning was followed by a delicious lunch. Many thanks to all those who helped, especially umpire Rosemary Mullins and marker Mary Price.

The Over-50s League was also played against Budleigh and, again, on the home green, on a beautiful sunny day and watched by some appreciative spectators, Sidmouth won five points overall with Marie Wall, Jenny Fricker and Anne Capon on the winning rink 27-18.

The Ladies' cup competitions started with the Three Wood and, despite a blustery wind, there was good competitive play. Two rounds were played during the day. Well done to all those who took part and congratulation to the winners.

The only Ladies' match was away against Shaldon. What a lovely setting! Fortified with the local hostelry's food - especially sandwiches made with the locally caught crab - Sidmouth's ladies' three triple teams took to the green at Shaldon.

A very warm welcome and a lovely al fresco tea at half time made this a memorable afternoon.

Sidmouth ladies were on good form with the following results: Elaine Reed, Catherine Hune andMary Smith 27-2; Jane Painter, Jean Mountford and Christa Turner 18-5; Jill Lewis, Sue Mison and Jill Bishop 14-14. Well done, ladies a very good result.

County Competitions have now started - good luck to all Sidmouth Ladies who have entered - we hope to read about successes later in the season.
