Even the anglers are fed up of being wet

The weather seems to have beaten most anglers this week with only the hardiest of souls venturing out in the wintry conditions.
But perseverance pays off, as Pete Gregory has shown with a couple of trips to some of our rock marks landing Conger Eel, Smalleyed and Thornback Rays. Will Booth visited the north Somerset reefs and was rewarded with a superb 13lbs 10oz Smoothhound, one peeler crab and another of 7lbs 7oz on Squid.
Corey Upham of Brixham SAC fished at Scabbacombe near Brixham in the South Devon League and landed a BullHuss of 11lbs 5oz.
The estuaries seem to be a target for the shore anglers at the moment with plenty of hard fighting Gilthead bream being the target. A couple of good fish were beached this week to the rods of Luke Edmonds and Daniel Patrick.
John Moore fished at Exmouth and had a hungry Ballan Wrasse take his bait. Mackerel are now showing around our case, it’s time to get a few for the barbecue or in the freezer for bait.
East Devon all-round angler Alex Webb travelled to White Acres holiday park near Newquay for a fishing holiday and caught a new personal best Carp, which tipped the scales at 24lb 2oz.
Newbarn Angling centre have had a busy week with regular angler Rich Park fishing an afternoon session and landing six Carp to 20lbs, all fish taken in the margins to ledgered boilies. Another Newbarn regular, Wayne Hockley, fished a couple of evening sessions, taking 9 Carp to 19lbs again from the margins but this time on maggots and corn.
