Sidmouth made it five wins from five Francis Clark Devon League top flight games with a 93-run home win over North Devon.

The match also saw a maiden League century from Liam Lewis who shared another superb opening stand with Matt Cooke.

Lewis carried his bat to troop off to a standing ovation with an unbeaten 103 to his name. He struck seven fours and three sixes in his 146-minute stay at the wicket.

Lewis shared stands of 115 with Matt Cooke (67), 54 with Anthony Griffiths (30) and 44 with Josh Bess (17). Peter Randerson, who Lewis moved from Heathcoat with to Fortfield 15 months ago, put bat to ball at the end of the innings to guide the hosts to 279-4.

North Devon made a fine start to the run chase led by their hard hitting South African batsman with the first wicket not falling until 109 was on the board.

However, once Sidmouth skipper Will Murray removed him it was all plain sailing and the final visiting wicket fell with the score on 186.

Murray finished with figures of 3-32 from his ten overs. Lewis completed a fine all-round shift with a return of 2-39 in 10 and there were two wickets also for Matt Cooke (2-12) and Charlie Miles who picked up his first senior eleven wickets with a tidy return of 2-5 from four overs.

The other wicket taker was Scott Barlow (1-32 in eight).

With Bovey Tracey also winning to keep up the pace with Sidmouth, it means both teams have perfect five from five records whilst Exmouth, who Sidmouth have already beaten, have lost just once this term and they picked up the extra two points for a declaration success at Exeter.

It’s Exeter next for Sidmouth. Skipper Murray says: “Despite having the three out (Adam Dibble with Somerset, Zac Bess and Will Gater, both to injury), we have still managed to keep the winning run going. Of course the longer we keep winning the more the pressure increases, but that’s normal and not something I am going to get over excited about. Far more important for me is that we guard against complacent and ensure that no matter who the opposition are we do all the correct things. Against North Devon I felt that, and its rare I have to say this, but we got bullied a little in terms of when their openers were on We’ve not seen that much this season, but it does show we are not invincible and need to be wary of letting standards slip.”
