Chris Lewis emerged victorious from the Handicap Cup at Sidmouth last Saturday, writes George Carr.

Lewis came through amongst the 71 who contested the Cup and he was certainly pressed very hard by both John Dunn and Pat McCormack with all three shooting a net 65 and separated only on count-back.

Lewis birdied the short par-four first hole for a flying start but the bogey he registered on the equally short par-four 18th must have left him wondering if he had done quite enough - well he certainly had; but it was a close run thing!

It was the short finishing holes, also, that tripped both Dunn and McCormack; John Dunn’s double-bogey on the 17th and Pat McCormack’s bogey on the 18th costing them both the Handicap Trophy in the end. George Barber (of Picture-Match fame) headed a gaggle of players one shot away on net 66, George, having dropped nine of his eleven shots on the front nine, steadied the ship and dropped only two on the back nine to claim fourth spot on count-back from Messrs Melluish CC Roberts and club captain John Rockey, who, we are very pleased to note, has obviously made a good recovery from his recent eye operation, well played gentlemen all.
