Lost out to Liverton after tough season

Liverton 7,, Sidmouth Town FC 0

Peninsula League East Div One

the Vikings played their final game of a long, hard season away at champions Liverton, which was always going to be their sternest test.

Town survived a few scares in the opening 20 minutes as, with the away side not keeping possession, Liverton were able to control the game.

Eventually, on 25 minutes, the home side took the lead and doubled their advantage soon after to lead 2-0 at the break. Liverton really applied the pressure after the interval and the away side, trying to get back into the game, were picked off as Liverton romped to a 7-0 win.

Manager Paddy Thomas said: “Liverton are worthy champions, they play good passing football, have experienced players who can hurt you in terms of passing, movement, talking and the will to win. On the day we didn’t get the basics right and, if you give the ball away continually to any side in this league, you will be punished.

“Our aim at the start was to retain our place in the league and we have achieved this with no budget, as the majority of teams in this league ‘pay’ players.

“We have to try and keep the players we have and add some experience to the squad as Ottery and Axminster, who both finished below us, will be stronger next year.

“Finally, a thank you to Simon Hudson, Jason Stiling and Jason Margrett for their hard work and Geoff West, the club’s ever reliable minibus driver. See you next season.”
