EXMOUTH powered to victory over Sidmouth to take their McKinley White Exeter Twenty 20 crown at the County Ground, writes John Goodwin.

Sidmouth were restricted to 105-7 after Man of the Match George Greenway swept away the middle order with four wickets in seven balls and Richard Arnold struck four sixes in an innings of 43 which helped Exmouth to victory with seven overs spare.

On winning the toss, Sidmouth elected to bat, with Anthony Griffiths and Will Sobczak playing cautiously to lay some sort of foundation.

At 61-1 after 11 overs the time came to open up, but Zach Bess was bowled round his legs by James Tapper for 22 and Griffiths became the first of Greenway's victims, immediately followed by Ben Gledhill.

That made it 72-4 and only two runs were added when Will Murray was fifth man out.

Greg Chaplin joined the procession, bowled first ball by Tapper and Will Gater, on whom Sidmouth were relying to hit them out of trouble, succumbed to Greenway to make it 78-7.

The wicket provided some relief to Exmouth wicketkeeper Tom Booker who had put down a skier from Gater in the previous over.

Jamie Wardrop and James Gingell piloted Sidmouth to 105 without further calamity, but it looked an inadequate total.

This was borne out when Arnold began launching into the bowling. Sidmouth had some joy when Murray trapped Lawrence Greenway lbw with score on nine, but the total had reached 83 before Arnold mishit a Miles Dalton delivery and was caught.

Anthony Radanovic, with 35, and Richard Baggs, 16 not out, completed the eight-wicket win.

?Sidmouth had reached the final with a 94-run win over Budleigh Salterton, which prevented a possible criminal action.

Budleigh player Bob Dawson, who was playing for Devon, along with team mates Sandy Allen and Charlie Morris, had said on Twitter that if his weakened side beat Sidmouth in this game he would field naked in his team’s league match at Bradninch tomorrow.

This unsightly prospect was averted when Sidmouth won by 94 runs to justify his lack of confidence.

Sobczak anchored the Sidmouth innings with 51 and gave a good start with Griffiths who made 26.

Murray made 27 in a total of 144 which looked vulnerable when Scott Barlow struck the second ball of the reply for a huge straight six. Wickets tumbled rapidly, Murray taking 3-14 in his four overs, and Budleigh were dismissed for 50.
