In anticipation of Wimbledon there was an excellent turnout for the family fun tournament at Sidmouth Tennis Club, writes Lesley Cranston.

Although played in slightly blustery conditions, this did not detract from the enjoyment of the day or blow away the spirit of amiable competition.

The event team’s adults with juniors were competing in a round robin format in which every game counts, the pair who totals the most games is the winner. On this occasion the honour went to Peter Fung and young Louis Spalding whose fearless forehand proved to be a weapon of mass destruction! Runners-up, Bob Heffill and Mollie Wiltshire made sure it was a close-run contest.

The event ran smoothly under the guidance of Junior Co-ordinator Debbie Snelgrove whose hard work in preparation for the day certainly paid off.

Marlene Maynard and her team did a terrific job in organising the equally important social activities in the form of a barbecue and well supported raffle. Many thanks to all those who donated such generous prizes.
