The visitors began in a determined and aggressive manner, and took a deserved lead after sixteen minutes through Javier Martin.

The Albion were still rather lacklustre, but Matt Rowson equalised on the half-hour mark with an exquisite finish from a superbly threaded through ball from Ian Beavis.

The match then began to liven up and, although the Valley regained the lead after some rather sloppy defending, there was just time before the interval for Martyn Hancock to equalise with a stunning free kick.

With the wind at their backs, the hosts completely dominated the second half, and a long range free kick from inside their own half gave Martyn Hancock his second and Beer their winning goal.

Although this was rather fortuitous, it was no more than the Albion deserved in a match where defender Simon Smith was outstanding.
