The Macadam Cups Golf Singles Tournaments have been played over the season, writes Mike Taylor.

In the Low Handicap Competition nine players competed in two blocks, with David Temple winning through a depleted Block A and Ann Ratcliffe and Keith Thorley successful in Block B. David beat Keith +4 to meet Ann in the final, which was won by Ann +1 in a closely fought game.

The High Handicap Competition attracted 19 entries split into three groups. Paul Griew and Dudley Ratcliffe reached the semi-finals from Group A, Philip Harris from Group B and Richard Thurlow from Group C. The semi-final winners were Philip, who narrowly beat Paul +1, and Richard, who beat Dudley +5. The final was played in fine conditions, with Richard taking an early lead and Philip fighting back valiantly to draw level, but eventually losing -2.

?The Devonia Cup is a 14-point handicap competition for players in the 18-24 handicap range with all competitors receiving bisques. This year the finalists were Pam Bowra (20) and Anne Reece (22). With the sun shining and the lawn in perfect condition, both players opened cautiously, setting their balls on opposite sides of the lawn. Pam ran hoop 1, but failed to make further immediate progress.

Anne made good use of her extra bisque entitlement to get several hoops ahead, but Pam was always in touch. Nevertheless, Anne was the first to get both balls to Rover and held on to win +6 in what was an entertaining final.
