Macklin’s might men march on

Colin Macklin’s B team visited Dawlish Warren for the return fixture having won convincingly at home (5-1), writes John Barnard.

Unbeaten all year, the team went into the match in a confident mood. Captian Colin didn’t play with his usual partner. Instead he selected vice-captain Ray Gunston which he probably regretted as they lost convincingly to a four-and-three score line.

The in-form Lee Wenham played with Mike Dommett and they won by a dog licence (seven-and-six for those of you that remember these).

Jim Anderton and Simon Emerson lost three-and-two, possibly tired out by hunting for balls which Simon seemed determined to leave around the course for the many rabbits to play with!

High Dorliac and Bob Skelley then won by the same margin to keep Sidmouth in the hunt. Colin Mitchell and Don Cooper then came in demoralised after a bruising six-and-five defeat so it was all up to the last pair, Roger Freer and Pete Northcott who came up trumps with a win by a hole.
