The ladies at Sidmouth played for the Morritt Medal on Wednesday, the original Medal is engraved with a lady golfer and is dated June 1894, writes Gill Paddon.

It was discovered in 2001 by the then Club Secretary who purchased it and presented it to the Ladies’ Section.

The highlight of the game has to be the two that Margot Beauchamp scored on the first hole, which is a par four, 243 yards uphill for the ladies. Margot drove her ball to the fairway, took a nine wood to the green, a perfect shot and the ball ended up in the hole for two! Margot shared the 2s prize with Julie Lye.

The overall winner was Mavis Vanstone with a medal score of 65, Mavis also won division two. The runner up and winner of division one was Gill Paddon with a score of 67, Gill also won the putting competition for the first time ever with 30 putts. Penny Ashby won division three with a score of 71.
