THERE were major surprises for some of the county’s top clubs in the second round of the Emerton-Court knockout contest for senior golfers, writes Peter Stuckey.
The event, run by the Devon Men Veterans Golfers Association, has 16 teams remaining with 21 already knocked out.
Biggest upset was the defeat of last year’s champions Libbaton by Staddon Heights. The defeats of Torquay (by Willingcott Valley), Churston (by Dainton), Dartmouth (by Elfordleigh) and Royal North Devon (by Tavistock) were also unexpected.
Others to reach the next round are: Great Torrington, Tiverton, Exeter, Bigbury, Honiton, Padbrook Park, The Warren, Saunton, Portmore, East Devon and Yelverton.
The matches in the third round have to be completed by July 6.
