The National inter-club competition in orienteering is called the Compass Sport Cup, which is split into big clubs and small clubs. Seven clubs met on Sunday for the regional round at Haytor, writes Tess Stone.

The clubs that attended were Devon, BOK (Bristol), SBOC (Swansea Bay Orienteering Club), SWOC (South Wales Orienteering Club), Wessex, Wimbourne and KERNO (Cornwall). Devon and BOK were the only two in the big club competition. At the event, courses are also available for younger competitors where pre-schoolers can follow string around a course.

Twenty four of the 64-strong team came from East Devon and included entries 10-70 year olds. The youngest competitors were Meg Somers from Payhembury and Flurry Grierson from Ottery St. Mary.

Devon had some good performances on the day and everyone enjoyed the competition.

BOK came away victorious gaining 2442 points, Devon were not too far behind with 2347 points.

The top 25 finishers from each club score 100 points for first in the age group then reducing by 1,2,or 4 points for each next runner depending on the category. We wish BOK all the best in the final.

?The next local event will be at Core Copse, East Hill near Ottery St Mary on March 4, 10.30am to 1.30pm. There will be something for everyone so do go along and have a go!
