Due to bad weather, only two Honiton Netball League games were able to be played on the first Monday of October, writes Steph Upson.

The two games took place indoors, played at Colyton LED Centre.

Tornados gained their first points of the new campaign, albeit after a 25-13 defeat at the hands of Otter Valley.

It was a close match up until the third quarter at which point Otter Valley took control of the game, allowing their shooters more opportunities to shoot and score and their dominance continued through the final quarter.

Both team captains stole the limelight in this game; Pippa Wyatt for her work as centre and Kirsty Trude for her fine defensive play as goalkeeper.

The other match played saw JD Tyres defeat Cranbrook 23-13.

In what proved to be a close encounter of the tense kind, Cranbrook got off to a great start, leading the way after the first quarter and holding their advantage through to half-time.

Cranbrook’s captain Sinead McDonagh led by example at centre to secure her team’s Player of the Match award.

However, it was JD Tyres who ultimately won the game as they got through some excellent second-half defensive work during which time they restricted Cranbrook to just six further goals!

In the same period of time, at the opposite end of the court, JD Tyres scored 16 times thanks, in the main, to some skilful shooting from the team’s captain, the recently married Louise Quick. Despite losing, Cranbrook kept JD on their toes and deservedly banked a point for their efforts.
