As the weatherman said the other evening ‘September will make up for August’ and so far he is right, but there’s a long month ahead, writes Gill Paddon.

After so many cancelled competitions due to the rain, this week we played in beautiful sunshine BUT the competition was not a qualifier because of necessary work being done on the greens by the ground staff and we had too many temporary greens!

Nevertheless, all the ladies completed the Par competition and most thought that it was a nice day but the golf was pretty unremarkable with lots of problems getting the ball to drop into the hole except of course the winner, Yvonne Anning. She completed her round with a score of plus one, streets ahead of her nearest rivals, Angela Coles who scored minus five and Sue Billinghurst came in with minus six.
