Sidmouth Town 4, Willand Rovers1 Sidmouth Under-13s booked a Wellman Cup final berth with a comfortable 4-1 success over visiting Willand Rovers.

Sidmouth began brightly and were ahead in the 13th minute when Alex Stone continued his recent hot streak of scoring when he reacted first to a shot from Joe Miller that had cannoned back off the crossbar.

With midfield quartet Stone, Miller, Ed Doble and Ben Miller dominating the middle third of the pitch Sidmouth stayed in charge, though clear-cut chances were hard to fashion until Joe Buckland doubled the lead before the break.

The second half saw more of the same with keeper Tyler Hillier well protected by his disciplined back line. It was 3-0 when a neat lobbed pass from Connor Murphy released Joe Miller who headed over the advancing glovesman.

With 12 minutes remaining the visitors struck back, but it turned out to be merely a consolation for, five minutes later the three goal margin was restored when Miller volleyed home his second to complete the scoring. Manager, Sean Murphy said: β€œIt was a great performance from the lads especially considering we had three players either ill of ineligible for the cup. We are through to what I hope will be the first of three Cup finals and it would be particularly nice to go one better in the Wellman Cup having lost I the final twelve months ago.”
