Sidmouth Town 6, Woolwell 0 Sidmouth Town Under-15s made light of the fact they had been without a game for so long when they comfortably brushed aside the DJM league visitors to book a last four berth in then Devon County Cup.

However, the fact they managed to play at all was very much down to the supreme efforts of the Paul Newberry to get the pitch in a condition for play after all the recent rain.

The Town youngsters had been inactive since November, but were roared on buy a large group of supporters

The afore mentioned Newberry efforts were repaid by the team who produced arguably one of the finest ever performances by the home team.

Their skill, passing and movement proved too much for the Plymouth side which left the visitors restricted to just a handful of shots throughout the game.

Sidmouth controlled the game from the first whistle.

Winger Alex Stone played Tyler Wellman in on the edge of the box, Wellman craftily guiding the ball over the keeper for the first.

Against the run of play Sidmouth gave away a soft penalty, but keeper Jake Sellick blocked the spot kick with his only save of the game!

Then, with arguably the goal of the season so far, the tricky Al Forsyth ran through two challenges before passing to Jack Dewinton who then effected a brace of two nutmegs (putting the ball through the opponents legs), and riding four challenges before rifling the ball into the top corner of the net!

At the break the home management cautioned the Town side about not letting complacency come into play.

The players responded to the call and quickly added to their lead when good link-up play by Ben Miller and Roel Ruigrok forced the visitors backward. A A corner was won and Joe Miller took an in-swinging corner that found its way into the net!

To Woolwell’s credit they kept going and enjoyed the momentum for 15 minutes before they conceded another corner.

Taker Joe Miller was challenged to repeat his goal scoring antics, which he duly did shaping the ball directly in to the top far corner of the goal!

Unfortunately, outstanding captain Jamie Newbery clashed heads attacking the corner and had to retire from the game.

Man of the match Jonny Dunn, who played the lone striker role to perfection, threaded through to Miller for his hat-trick before the lively Connor Murphy slid Ed Doble through for a classy sixth.

Sidmouth were strong defensively throughout with Dylan King, Jonny Surtees and Tom Orchard providing an impenetrable line.

Sidmouth roll on to their third consecutive County Cup semi-final, facing Alphington away this weekend, weather permitting.

If they can repeat the performance and desire shown in this game, they have every chance of making the April 10 final.
