Contrary to the recent report that Ray Gunston and Doug Goodall were this year’s foursomes champion’s (apologies from this reporter) they had in fact just reached the final by beating David Hoare and Paddy Tallon, writes George Carr.
They therefore found themselves playing the final on the following Friday; heavy downpours the day before and a 7.30am start did not help their cause in the real final, confronted as they were by the formidable pairing of Will Hastie and Moray Bosence.
Although giving eight shots to their veteran opponents Hastie and Bosence made light work of the wet conditions with their long hitting off the tee and found themselves five up at the turn after which the result was a formality and hands were shaken on the 14th.
Well done foursome champions Hastie and Bosence and congratulations to the valiant veterans Gunston and Goodall on reaching the final.
