Last Friday saw the unveiling of a new clubhouse of the village of Branscombe thanks to the generosity of a local businessman.

The new facility is next to the cricket pitch behind the Village Hall, and was sponsored by the founder of Xchanging, David Andrews, the company which sponsors the Oxford and Cambridge Boat race.

Paul Haines, President of the Branscombe Cricket Club, said: “Last year we got in touch with David Andrews, who owns a house in Branscombe. He kindly agreed to fund the provision of a pre-fabricated wooden cabin which the Cricket club has assembled and fitted out as a Sports clubhouse for the village. “

After a few speeches Mr Andrews and his wife Sylvia toasted the opening of the clubhouse, which Paul hopes to encourage more sport in the village.

He added: “The clubhouse was bought as a kit and assembled by the Cricket club and helpers. It is carpeted, fitted with sink and fridge and connected to mains electricity. It is available for use by all village organisations and will we hope promote more organised sport in Branscombe.”
