Sidmouth RFC Colts 29, Devonport Services 22This was a thrilling game and, as skipper Matt Farrington put it, 'the best team performance so far this season'. With only three minutes on the clock, inside centre Tom Hodge put Sidmouth ahead with a converted try, following some solid driving from the pack. Minutes later Hodge went over again at pace after a well worked scrum. Devonport came back with a converted try before back row Stuart Bickerstaff made a 60 metre run along the wing, collapsing over the line to put Sidmouth 17-7 ahead. The forwards were competing and winning set plays and keeping good possession. The try of the game came just before half time when Sidmouth's No 8, Richard Hodges, passed to the full back Tom Ross in his own 22. He passed it inside to fly half Ross Collins who then made a 40 metre dash to pass it back inside to the No 8 who put the ball down to score. Devonport came out in the second half with steely determination and better discipline and started to cause Sidmouth some headaches. They pushed over for a try early in the half and followed this up with a penalty to bring the score to 22-15. Replacement Sam Sowden then went over for Sidmouth and Liam Kubaczka converted. Sidmouth forwards were defending well but were beginning to tire as Devonport drove over for another try. Sidmouth hung on for the remaining five minutes to seal the victory. Coach Bo Vanstone was pleased with the result but said that there was "still work to do but I was very glad to see the team coming together as a unit.
