Bow AAC 4, Newton Poppleford 0 Newton Poppleford gave high flying Bow AAC a much tougher game than expected.

The Popples travelled with just a bare eleven players, but they put in a good performance for most of the first forty five minutes with Matt Tett and Joe Clarke particularly prominent, before conceding two goals late in the half.

The visitors started the second period strongly, but a defensive mix up led to a third goal, and then a fourth before the hour mark, when their right winger got behind the visitors defence.

Newton Poppleford came back strongly, and created some good chances in the final half hour, with Dave Chalk twice, and Mark Tett forcing smart saves from the Bow keeper. Chalk then saw his shot cleared off the line with the keeper beaten, and Matt Tett went close from a free kick. Although they finished the game well, it was too late to make a difference to the result.

Manager Cliff Cooper is hoping to add several new players to his squad in the coming days.

He said: “Morale and team spirit is simply fantastic, and, in patches we are playing excellent football. We need to stay switched on and working as a collective unit for the full ninety minutes, and when we stop giving soft goals away, points will follow.”

Tomorrow (Saturday) the Popples entertain University in another Fresha League Division One game.
