Newton Poppleford kick off the new Fresha League season this Saturday.
The Popples who have taken over from where Colaton Raleigh left off at the end of last season – all that has changed is the club name, and management of course - with former Colaton Raleigh team boss Rikki Pitter now at Manstone Lane, Sidmouth managing the Vikings Reserves, will open their new term with a Division One meeting with last season’s Division Two champions Elmore Reserves.
The Popples new Manager, Cliff Cooper, has had a difficult summer trying to rebuild the squad after losing no fewer than sixteen players to Sidmouth Town!
Cooper may have just eleven players available for the opener following injuries to Jake Boyland and Jordan Cooper, with ankle and knee problems respectively.
The players of both teams will observe one minute silence before the fixture in memory of Sky TV reporter Martin Dean, who played football for Newton Poppleford during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
