The home match against Crediton was a casualty of the rain.

The quarter finalists of the Grace Port, a 2-wood triples, were Frances Wilson, Kath Valentine, Christa Turner; Pat Hague, Marian Borst, Eileen Hewett; Paddy Chew, Mary Smith, Sheila Lewis; Margaret King, Pat Harvie, Jill Bishop.

Those who were knocked out in the morning drew some comfort, sitting in the clubhouse, from watching the others battling with bowls too wet to hold properly, scoreboards where the wet numbers stuck together and difficulty in delivering a bowl encumbered by too much protective clothing.

The final of the Ladies' Handicap will be between Jill Bishop and Mary Smith.

It was a joy to have good weather when Sidmouth went on to the green for Jill and Anne's Captains' Day.

Perhaps that joy was partly due to the consumption of good measures of Buck's Fizz prior to the game.

The captain's winning team was Paddy Chew, Pat Norville, Phyl Nobbs, Jill Bishop 27-12.

The vice-captain's team: Frances Wilson, Di Cox, Jean Brimson, Christa Turner 30-8. Overall the vice-captain won 110-102.

Gifts were presented to the winners.

Sidmouth were delighted to welcome Phyl Nobbs back on the green.
