On the road to SW19

The Road To Wimbledon Tournament at Sidmouth was finally completed.

The Road To Wimbledon Tournament at Sidmouth was finally completed, after a day of heavy showers at 6.30pm, with Jack Ensall beating Will Jenkins in the boys' final, and Hattie Dicks beating Katie Richmond in the girls' final. The two winners go forward ton compete in the county finals at Ivybridge on July 4/5. Winners from that event go on to the finals at Wimbledon in August. There were some fantastic close tennis matches, (a lot went to three sets) and the girls' event was particularly close with only two points making the difference at times. The tournament was played in great spirit, and the children had some great rallies despite such difficult conditions. It rained a lot in the morning and organisers did consider, at one stage, just trying to get through the round robin stages, but the children just kept playing on and seemed to really enjoy the day and, in the afternoon, the sun came out!The club held a raffle to help raise some funds to put towards the floodlighting. The winners were presented with the John Clayton Memorial trophy which they will keep for one year and have their names engraved on, and medals which they will keep as mementoes.
