Honiton Netball League round up.

In Division One OPG and Flamingos continued on their winning ways with victories over Sidmouth Toucans and Signs South West respectively.

Both losing sides played well and did enough to gain a point in defeat. For OPG the star of the game in their 34-23 victory over Toucans was Carol Goddard whilst Emma Davey turned in a fine performance for the Sidmouth side.

Signs South West really needed their point from the match against Flamingos and with Faye Hawkins getting back to her best on her return after her baby, they did it!

The game started evenly and at half way SSW were only two goals in arrears, but in the third and final quarters, Flamingos, with Rachel Burrows in fine form, moved ahead to finish 31-18 winners.

The crucial game of the evening was between Hi Q and Uplowman who are both chasing the points needed to maintain their first division status. Hi Q got off to the better start and by half way were 21-11 in front thanks to good work from Kerri Callon. The third quarter belonged to Uplowman as they reduced the deficit to 22-27 with Heather Adcock playing well. The final period went goal for goal with both teams scoring seven so the score finished with a victory for Hi Q by 34-29.

In Division Two leaders Tip Top Trees maintained their four point lead after a 34-21 win over Howden Hawks. This defeat for the Hawks put paid to their outside chances of promotion whilst it strengthened the chances of 3Ts making a return to the top flight!

With Phoebe Confrey playing well the Trees had led from the start and, although Alice Quick had a fine game for the Hawks, they could not get back into the game.

Pixies continued their fine run of form with another victory that saw them move up into second place thanks to a victory over bottom placed Blackdown Ladies by 27-13. Anna Boison took the honours for the Pixies whilst Rosie Cooke was the Ladies player to watch. Closest game of the evening was the match between the third and fourth placed sides – Otter Valley Dairy and JD Tyres – who switched places as a result. Both now have 26 points but JD have a superior goal difference.

At the start of the game it looked different as OVD moved into a 4-0 lead at quarter time. By half way JD were just one goal behind at 6-7 and going into the final quarter it was all square at 11-11.

The last quarter was a nail biter and the game could have gone either way but it was JD who edged the game by 16-15!

Helen Freemantle at GD was the Player of the Match for JD whilst for OVD the honour went to Sarah Dyer.

With just two or three matches to play there are still four teams chasing the two promotion spots.
