Otterton 5, Sampford Peverell 1 Otterton equalled a club record as they registered an eleventh successive victory in all competitions, booking a place in the last eight of the Devon Intermediate Cup east Area section.

In an even-steven first half the visitors had looked sharper in the early exchanges and deservedly claimed a 20th minute lead with Otters glovesman Adam Williams given no chance with the opening goal.

However, not for the first time this season, the Otters response to early match adversity was good and they were level before the break thanks to another free-kick from Ben Yeomans that arrowed its way into the net.

The Otters began the second half as they ended the first and they took the lead when top scorer Kev Pitt beat the offside trap to latch onto a measured Jon Dack through-ball before driving it past the keeper from just inside the box.

Luke Iddon added a third after some great work from Si Tuley. The in-form Tuley then played a big part in the fourth when he squared the ball to Lee Mitchell who found himself in space 15-yards out from where he rifled the ball home.

Tuley then got his reward for a fine all-round contribution as he applied a polished finish to complete the scoring.

Striker Danny Marish was a whisker away from adding a sixth when his fine run and shot ended with the ball flashing wide.

The 11th straight win matches a run in the 2002/03 season.

Otter’s boss Pete Mclean said: “This was one of the most efficient and complete performances I have seen from this team this season. Clearly the commitment they are all showing to training is paying off big time. I simply cannot ask for more.”

Saturday sees the Otters return to Fresha league duty and a trip to Topsham.
