Exeter Tri Club staged another running of their popular Winter/Spring Aquathalon series and members of the East Devon-based N1 Tri Club were not only in attendance, but doing exceptionally well.

The event takes the format of a 600-metre pool swim followed by a 5km run with the action taking place at Dawlish, Sidmouth, Middlemoor and Exeter University.

Anne Ephraums has taught many of the area’s children how to swim, but she is a superb athlete herself and won every race in her age category, super vet.

Based on her performance in this event all eyes will be on her in full triathlon races later this year.

The Speake family did themselves proud too!

Oxford University student Adam won the Middlemoor event outright! Sister Abi, who is a hugely promising athlete, came first in the junior category at Dawlish and second in Sidmouth. Mum Claire, competing in the super vet category, continued the family success story coming second in Dawlish, second in Sidmouth and third at Exeter University in the super vet age group. Vanessa Glyn-Jones, who is set to compete in the national triathlon championships at Nottingham, looking to win a GB vest, confirmed her form with a second place at Dawlish, third at Sidmouth and a magnificent first place at the University in the vintage age group.

It was all a most encouraging set of performances, offering loads of promise as the triathlon season proper gets underway this weekend.
