As always, there was a good turnout from Sidmouth for the Great West Run in Exeter, with 16 runners amongst the 2,000. The weather forecast was better than expected with warm temperatures and a bit of sun. Some of us got a bit sunburnt! David Palmer had his usual sterling run, even though he had a cracked rib and 10 stitches in his head from coming off his bike at very high speed. Is there no stopping this man? Another who runs regardless is Adrian Organ, who is now looking forward to the Edinburgh Marathon, having already forgotten about London just a few weeks ago.Sidmouth did very well in their various age groups, with new member Jenny Reay coming third in her category, Bruce Odlin seventh in his and then Jane Hemsworth, Paul Mitchell and Colin Flood ninth, 10th and 11th respectively in theirs. Jenny's time was in fact a club W45 record and Bruce the same for M60s, beating the previous mark set by Mick Allen who opted this weekend for a half marathon in Saltash.Jane and David Skinner were running their first half marathons and Jane came first in her category of F46 which is either a new category or there was a computer glitch, but either way she can be very pleased with her performance! Andy Concannon was also giving it a go for the first time and, although sore at the end, was pleasantly surprised at how well it went. Di Collett and Sarah Watkins set off at a comfortable chatting pace to settle their nerves but somehow lost one another along the way. It's funny how the conversation dries up after about half way.Well done to the Juniors that took part in the two mile Fun Run. Their names and times weren't recorded but hope you all enjoyed your run.Full results as follows:- David Palmer (1.34), Jenny Reay (1.36), Adrian Organ (1.37), Bruce Odlin (1.44), Paul Mitchell (1.44), Colin Flood (1.50), Neil Rutter (1.52), Jane Hemsworth (1.52), Sue Dowen (1.54), Sarah Watkins (2.02), Fiona Cummins (2.02), Sasha Cummins (2.02), Richard Hedger (2.03), Andy Concannon (2.06), Di Collett (2.12), Jane Skinner (2.24), David Skinner (2.30). The last finisher on the day came in a few seconds under 3 hours 20 minutes.l Anyone wanting to take part in next year's race should start training now and would be well advised to come and join us on Wednesday evenings at the sailing club, starting at 7pm.
