The Hall's Estate Agents Ottery St Mary 10k road race has had an intermittent history.

The Hall's Estate Agents Ottery St Mary 10k road race has had an intermittent history, being held three times in the late 90s, and then again in 2006 and 7, but it has made a welcome return, sponsored by Hall's and has become a favourite with Sidmouth runners. The course took the 169 competitors from The King's School to the old A30, towards Fenny Bridges and returning through the town to the cricket club. Unfortunately, on Sunday, while Wimbledon was showing off its new Centre Court roof, all the rain was falling on Ottery. In the strong, blustery winds, Adrian Organ was first Sidmouth runner home, closely followed by Naomi Garrick, third lady overall, Mark Keast and a welcome re-appearance from Bruce Odlin. Drawing on his London Marathon training, Neil Rutter finished strongly, defending his decision not to run in his Sidmouth vest because of putting on weight in the intervening three weeks and it was now too small. Perhaps he just didn't want to get it wet. Meanwhile, the rain got heavier as ever improving Andy Concannon led in sprightly Brian Gosling and struggling Bill Valentine, with John Podmore aquaplaning in just ahead of four other Sidmouth runners, including Becky Robson on her way to a personal best, and Ashley Broughton, making his racing debut and who was, no doubt, wondering if all races were like this. Jane Hemsworth was clearly suffering from marathon and half-marathons in successive weeks.Sidmouth places and times: 22 Adrian Organ (42.07), 27 Naomi Garrick (42.37), 31 Mark Keast (43.09), 48 Bruce Odlin (46.07), 53 Colin Flood (46.45), 62 Neil Rutter (47.45), 74 Andrew Concannon (48.39), 81 Brian Gosling (49.41), 82 Bill Valentine (49.53), 90 John Podmore (51.06), 91 Becky Robson (51.08).
