End of the season and the sun was shining at Washbrook Meadows. Otters' Reserves were in action against Legends FC, their last game ever as a team as the Exmouth college-based side is moving to Plymouth. Otters lined up in their usual 4-4-2 with Dan Gill, back after an operation, playing a striking role and Aaron Carpanini back after 33 days out due to suspension. Otters started sluggishly with passes going astray and dwelling on the ball. They got a break when James Hudson threw himself at a corner taken by Scott Haliday and this goal proved to be the catalyst to a great Otters performance. Jack Collins was having a great game down the right, tracking back and linking up well in attacks and was a constant threat. The Otters' second came from a beautiful through ball from Dale Strawbridge. The student defender misjudged his header and the gambling Dan Gill benefited by going through and finishing coolly, striking the ball over the keeper and putting the Otters 2-0 up. Half time came but not before James Hudson had a great chance to add to his goal tally, heading over from four yards! Otters came out searching for more goals and, from another set piece, Durkin touched the ball goalwards, only for Carpanini to stab it home to make sure. Man of the Match Chris Ibbeson added a fourth with a tap in after Captain Harry Mills went on a march through the Legends' back four. Matt Bull got on the end of a great cross from Haliday but directed his header over the bar rather than under, so the score ended up as 4-0 and a good clean sheet for the Otters. They have only lost two league games since November and have an impressive goal difference of +24. l The Otters are at home against Senior 5 undefeated league champions Phoenix FC on Saturday and it should be a great game. They would like to see as much support as possible to celebrate their first season in the Devon and Exeter League.l Ottery Reserves will be taking part in a duo of charity matches raising money for Mark Murrin's charity, Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Mark's niece suffers from cystic fibrosis so it is a cause close to his heart.Everyone from the football club is getting involved from the youth to the players past and present so they would like as many people involved as possible. Both games will take place at Washbrook Meadows. The first match is on Friday, May 16, when Ottery Reserves take on the under-16s. On Saturday, May 17, Ottery Reserves take on a Chairman's XI.
